  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The Application Support Mgr, SAP Basis has overall responsibility for managing day to day projects and staff resources of the SAP Basis team within a larger unit/function. This position ensures that all deadlines are met in a dynamic environment that supports several end user departments.

     

    • Manages and assigns day to day projects and staff resources of Basis administrators. 
    • Provides the technical oversight and leadership necessary to accomplish the work.
    • Works closely with business customers to ensure that goals, objectives and work processes of the group align with the needs of the business. 
    • Liaises with development teams, infrastructure, security and operations to improve the reliability, security and efficiency of the SAP systems.
    • Identifies and recommends resource requirements for the team.
    • Develops work plan and priorities for their area. May contribute to the plans for the larger group.
    • Ensures that team members are aware of and aligned to corporate goals and objectives
    • Performs as a technical contributor, delivering the results required in the area. 
    • Design and document administration policies and procedures for the production environment and train the Offshore support team and Helpdesk to perform basic operations tasks on SAP.
    • Possesses strong knowledge of SAP Basis technical environments.  Serves as a technical resource to those supervised and must have skills to be hands on when required.
    • Demonstrates strong understanding of the processes, procedures and issues within the Basis arena.
    • Able to resolve or facilitate the resolution of complex technical issues.
    • Successfully resolves most technical and/or process issues within their area.
    • Assists in the analysis of complex problems requiring diagnosis, testing and judgment of which approach or procedure is most appropriate.
    • Recommends opportunities to improve work procedures and processes for their area, or implements process changes in areas where they have been delegated the authority to do so. 
    • Assists in the development and presentation of various technical analyses to management (e.g. systems, feasibility, implementation plans).
    • Implements technology or process solutions or services to meet multiple clients' requirements.
    • Project Leadership
      • Has strong capabilities and experience in Project Management roles.
      • Executing established plans for initiatives.
      • Ensuring resources and organization structure are in place and operating effectively.
      • Anticipating conflicting needs and proactively resolving them.
    • Integrating resources effectively, including resources under the direct control, or controlled by contractors, vendors, etc.
    • Responsible for assigning work, monitoring work quality, reviewing output and ensuring that staff are equipped to successfully deliver the work of the area.
    • Manages work assignments for team members.
    • Assists management in the area of resourcing.
    • Accountable for monitoring performance versus budget and achieving budget objectives for team.
    • Provides input into budget requirements and resource estimates for projects in their area.  

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field
    • 10+ years of SAP Basis experience required. Advanced degree highly desirable.

    Additional Qualifications

    • Well rounded technical background experience in Unix, Database, Networking, Storage, HA, DR and Cloud Infrastructure.
    • Prior project experience in a collaborative working environment with shared resources and vendors
    • PMP Certification
    • Ability to dissect business problems into Functional Solutions
    • Credibility with all clients is essential and a commitment to maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction through the implementation, investigation, analysis, instruction and relationship building efforts
    • Ability to influence business owners and senior management
    • Excellent group presentation skills and process redesign facilitation
    • Understanding of project management methodologies and practices
    • Effective communication, leadership skills in working with technical and non-technical people
    • Ability to work smoothly and positively in a collaborative environment with shared resources
