Overview and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for playing a key role in managing and reporting all charges and credits between Paramount and Viacom, including legal charges, fringe benefit charges, inter-company chargeback’s, etc. In addition, the incumbent will produce timely and accurate reports on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure reporting requirements are met.


Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Process inter-company charges and credits between Paramount business units and Viacom corporate 
  • Process journals for bank activity
  • Manage and produce reports with an in depth understanding of the nature of the transactions behind the charges and prepare the appropriate inter-company journal entries accordingly – distribute reports to Paramount Corporate planning, and overhead and capital budgeting groups
  • Reconcile (monthly) inter-company balances against the balances reported by the corporate group at Viacom
  • Reconcile corporate balance sheet accounts (excluding bank reconciliations)
  • Reconcile outstanding check lists from banks to General Ledger
  • Review interest income/expense for consolidated Paramount, ensuring balances are appropriate
  • Review non-operating income and losses, ensuring balances are appropriate
  • Review gains/losses from Discontinued Operations, ensuring balances are appropriate
  • Review equity income from unconsolidated subsidiaries and related taxes, ensuring balances are appropriate
  • Prepare Insurance allocation
  • Prepare support for legal fee accrual entry
  • Prepare all corporate group journal entries, including set up of recurring journal entries
  • Prepare journals for production bank account activity
  • Review and clear corporate lockbox receipts and other unapplied cash
  • Clear suspense/clearing accounts, ensuring they net to zero
  • Clear conversion accounts, ensuring they net to zero
  • Ensure all corporate group journal entries have required supporting documentation
  • Ensure all parked journal entries have been approved and posted during period close
  • Produce other ad hoc reporting and manage special projects as assigned 
  • The position reports to the Paramount Director–Corporate Reporting based in Los Angeles, but there will be significant interaction with Business Unit accounting teams and Viacom’s Corporate Reporting team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum 2 years accounting experience
  • Strong (and current) technical knowledge of US GAAP required
  • SAP General Ledger experience preferred
  • Previous experience with Hyperion systems preferred

  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills , and the soft personal skills needed to collect accurate formation from a wide network of people in a timely manner
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload efficiently and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven ability to perform detailed research and to provide solution driven results
