  • Overview and Responsibilities

    Oversee all technology operations of the Feature Animation division, which includes Digital Resource management, Core pipeline engineering, Workflow engineering and management, Show setup, Review facilities operation, Post production and Archival support. Collaborate with senior technology and production leadership to strategize, implement and enhance our global pipeline, in line with the long-term Studio goals, while maximizing investment in development efforts. We expect a broad knowledge of Feature Animation and VFX film production techniques and technologies, that covers as many areas of 3D as possible, solid development experience, and a proven history in relevant supervision roles.


    Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

    • Build a structured Animation technology team to work effectively with the Shows and the larger IT organization at Paramount
    • Interface with many layers of management and support personnel throughout Paramount Pictures’ local, Viacom and International offices, as applicable
    • Facilitate hardware and software purchases for AT
    • Manage Animation Technology personnel and workload
    • Collaborate with Animation Division leadership to strategize and execute technology solutions that fits each Show’s needs while balancing the global Studio goals
    • Partner with the business client to design or re-engineer in order to achieve increased efficiency and effectiveness
    • Manage Animation production vendor technology relationship, cross-site review needs and overall operational support
    • Provide on-going oversight and support for managed applications and infrastructure systems; escalating issues as necessary, including performing hands-on correction of problems, if needed
    • Define, document, and evaluate the current business functions and information needs
    • Supervise show pipeline and tool development, providing leadership on architecture and methods. Ensure the scalability and reliability of show-developed tools
    • Partner with VFX Supervisor and R&D/Pipe to address complex show-specific pipeline needs. Break down pipeline and tool development projects into development tasks and assign them to the pipeline team
    • Ensure effective communication between Leads, Supervisors, R&D and the show's pipeline team, as well as make sure critical information is shared across shows
    • Standardize show production, archival and backup processes

    Basic Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience as a Senior or Lead Pipeline TD with large-scale visual effects pipelines
    • Experience planning large projects and forecasting show needs
    • Expert level understanding of Visual Effects and/or Animation pipelines
    • Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities and all levels of creative and technical staff
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, problem solving, and management skills
    • Bachelor's degree in film/animation or equivalent

    • Informed about the state of computer technology
    • Flexibility and expediency in figuring out effective ways of working with many vendors located across the globe
    • Superior communication skills in working with technical and non-technical people and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships among all levels of an organization
    • Able to work independently and to prioritize tasks effectively
    • Work well in a team environment and with minimal supervision
    • Strong system configuration knowledge
    • Expert knowledge and experience with Python and PyQt
    • Expert level experience with the APIs and use of Maya, FLIX, Nuke and others is a big plus
